Gourd Luffa is know as a standard sponge gourd also known as Vegetable Sponge or Dishcloth Gourd. Vigorous vines from which fruit can be harvested over a long period of time. It is the only plant known that can be raised and used as a sponge.
The Luffa gourd sponges are very versatile in that they can be used for bathing, washing dishes or scrubbing. The Luffa is widely used for bathing to invigorate the skin as well as gift giving and crafts.

The fruit is about 3 inches—almost the size of a peach—with a yellow rind and fruity-tasting white flesh. They start out green and then turn yellow as they ripen.
You can spot a perfectly ripe melon in the same way you would a mango. It should feel heavier than it looks and have a slightly sweet aroma. Press gently on the end furthest from the stem—this should be slightly soft. Most of mine pulled away from the vine very easily.
